Driver airlifted after potato truck struck by train in central Minn.

OTTERTAIL, Minn. — A potato truck was struck by a train in Ottertail Wednesday morning, Sept. 27, pushing the truck along the tracks for several yards before coming to a stop.

The driver, Kenneth Betts, 32, of Richville sustained serious injuries but the extent of his injuries was not immediately known, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff office. Betts was initially taken by ambulance to Perham Health Hospital, then transported by air to Sanford Health Hospital in Fargo. The crew of the train was not injured.

Witnesses said the truck crossed the railroad tracks in front of the train without yielding.

The City of Ottertail is 20 miles west of Wadena.

Responders from Ottertail Rescue, Perham EMS, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol assisted at the scene.
