At least one grower who contracts with Minn-Dak Growers Ltd., of Grand Forks, N.D., says he’s hopeful about a new marketing agreement between the specialty crops processor and giant agricultural cooperative CHS Inc.
WASHINGTON — As the Senate makes plans to take up the farm bill, the Environmental Working Group last week released a study of crop insurance that shows some farms get big premium subsidies including those in North Dakota and Minnesota and urged Congress to consider releasing the names of crop insurance beneficiaries and putting limits on the subsidies.

ST. PAUL — Specialty crop growers in Minnesota can now apply for the 2010 Specialty Crop Block Grant program through the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA). The grants help growers of specialty crops, such as fruits, vegetables and nursery plants compete in today’s marketplace. Minnesota’s federal allocation for the grants is more than $797,000.
