The U.S. Department of Agriculture accepted 3.9 million acres offered nationwide under the Farm Service Agency’s 43rd Conservation Reserve Program general signup, including 190,000 acres in North Dakota.
The leader of North Dakota State University's Extension Service in Fargo is stepping down. Extension service director Duane Hauck officially retires Dec. 30, will return in January part-time in a 40 percent assignment. A national search for a permanent director is under way.

A grazing association official says some southwestern North Dakota ranchers were surprised to get a Forest Service order to reduce cattle grazing 30 percent on national grasslands by June 20. The agency says it’s an attempt to protect resources in dry areas.
The Forest Service manages grazing on about 1 million public acres on the National Grasslands, including the Medora District in southwestern North Dakota and the McKenzie District to the north.
