GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Ultra Green has plans to open a wheat straw fiber processing facility late this year in Devils Lake, N.D. Officials say the new plant is expected to provide an immediate boost to the regional economy.

The company will cut costs further than merely closing its Bismarck plant by consolidating its North Dakota manufacturing operations in Gwinner, where Melroe Manufacturing, Bobcat’s forerunner, was founded in 1947. The consolidation will be gradual and is expected to be completed by year’s end.
Bobcat Co.'s Bismarck plant workers were told Wednesday the Bismarck plant will close permanently by the end of the year, with about 390 of its 475 jobs transferred to the company’s plant in Gwinner, N.D. “There were a lot of chins hanging on the floor,” said employee Ron Vogel, who worked at the plant for 26 years.
The second-largest employer in Valley City, N.D., has temporarily cut 35 percent of its work force. John Deere Seeding Group in Valley City furloughed 89 full-time employees Thursday. The company says it plans to bring them back this fall.
North Dakota manufacturer Bobcat Co. said it will release a new line of products this summer.
The West Fargo-based company with plants in Gwinner and Bismarck is known for its skid-steer loaders.
