Judging by the number of people in attendance, it was another successful Douglas County Fair.
Had Thursday’s weather been a little bit better, it could have been a record-breaking year, according to Dick Gulbranson, Douglas County fair board secretary.
Kandiyohi County’s finest hand made quilts, its tastiest apple pies and its best-looking poultry all gathered near the shores of Foot Lake at the county fairgrounds in Willmar on Tuesday. Over the next four days, they’ll be prodded, measured, tasted, and otherwise compared by dozens of volunteer judges.
The North Dakota State Fair is off to a record-setting start.
More than 50,000 people attended the fair in Minot Saturday — the most ever on a single day. The crowd pushed the two-day total to more than 85,000.
Both the Stutsman County Fair and the Tatanka Festival had great results in Jamestown this past week, event organizers say.
“This year will be a benchmark for us,” said Al Lindberg, Stutsman County Fair Board president.
Beautiful weather and a lack of mosquitoes helped bring in near-record attendance for the four-day event, Lindberg said.
The James River Rodeo promises to stick to last year’s game plan, officials said. What was done last year, worked, said Marlyn Bertsch, James River Rodeo committee member.
The eighth annual James River Rodeo is set for July 10-11.
“Hopefully nothing is different than last year because everything went really well,” he said.
