Farmers Union will host a rally with Sen. Kent Conrad at the Seven Seas in Mandan at 3:15 p.m. Thursday. The event is being held to draw attention to the need for a permanent disaster title. Representative and House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson has been invited to participate in the rally.
A permanent disaster title in the new farm bill is needed, said North Dakota Farmers Union President Robert Carlson.

The North Dakota Winter Show paused during the draft horse pull Thursday to honor one of the most highly regarded members of the sport in this region.
Howard Wolf, 67, of Ypsilanti, N.D., died suddenly in January. He had competed in every draft horse pull at the Winter Show since they began in the 1970s.
The 2008 North Dakota Winter Show will blend old and new when it begins March 4 in Valley City.
“We have a lot of the old favorite events back,” said Nancy Allen, manager of the Winter Show. “As the oldest winter show in the region, people expect those things.”
