Charles W. Louis of Farmington, recently won first place in the Irrigated division of the 2011 National Corn Growers’ Association’s (NCGA) Corn Yield Contest in Minnesota. Louis won with Pioneer® brand hybrid 34F07, which yielded 263 bushels per acre.
Once upon a time, creameries dotted the countryside of Pierce County.
None were more than a few miles from the numerous small dairy operations, creating reasonably easy access for hauling the milk to them. Generally, until more recent times, the farmers did the hauling themselves. Production was greatest in the warmer months and far less during the winter.
Dan and Mary Luckwaldt will be celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Luckwaldt Farm Saturday, Aug. 8, by hosting the 28th annual St. Croix County Farm City Day from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
