This week, U.S. Department of Agriculture released preliminary data from the 2012 Census of Agriculture that provides a snapshot of a rural America that remains stable in the face of difficult economic times.
The Ag Census, conducted once every five years, says American farms, on average, are bigger, fewer and more prosperous. And though the number of young farmers has risen, U.S. farmers, on average, are getting even older.
Thursday’s (Feb. 5) Forum had a report about the ag census showing farm numbers, comparing 2002 to 2007, as well as other statistics. The Friday Forum had an editorial about how important the agricultural sector is to all people in North Dakota.
