World stock markets fell today as investors worried that any swine flu pandemic could derail a global economic recovery as the World Health Organization said it was now too late to contain the virus and urged countries to do what they can to mitigate the effects.
WASHINGTON — A never-before-seen strain of swine flu has turned killer in Mexico and is causing milder illnesses in the United States and elsewhere. While authorities say it’s not time to panic, they are taking steps to stem the spread and also urging people to pay attention to health warnings and take their own precautions.
Public health officials in Minnesota say they're responding aggressively to the potential swine flu threat. But they say lab tests on 12 patients with flu-like symptoms have found no confirmed or probable cases in Minnesota so far. Samples from those 12 patients all tested negative for swine flu.
