Bill Gross, a Seattle-based commercial pilot and founder and president of Farm Rescue of Horace, N.D., was given an honorary doctorate degree on May 16 at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.
Tarin Dewald, who farms near Fredonia, N.D., was working on his auger March 6 when he fell off, plummeting about 15 feet to the ground. He broke his pelvis, a few ribs, his elbow and got a concussion from the impact of the fall.
The North Dakota-based operation provides planting and harvesting aid to farm families who have gone through a major illness, injury or disaster. It helps with the actual farm work rather than doling out money. Each family can receive help on up to 1,000 acres.
