Markets focused on export business
Wheat contracts again had strong gains last week. The U.S. Department of Agriculture made a significant cut in projected ending stocks by increasing exports. Commercial buying and sharp losses in the U.S. dollar were supportive, as well. For the week, March Minneapolis gained 27 cents, March Chicago was up 22 cents and March Kansas City gained 27 cents.

Wheat contracts had strong gains last week. Winter weather concerns and noncommercial short-covering were the main supportive factors. For the week, March Minneapolis gained 37 cents, March Chicago was up 28 cents and March Kansas City gained 40 cents.

As of the Jan. 23 close, March soybeans were 39.5 cents lower for the week, while the November contract fell 16.25 cents. Soybeans traded sharply lower Jan. 21, with commercial selling suggesting possible Chinese export cancellations.

Wheat: quiet trade continues Wheat contracts were narrowly mixed throughout last week. The lack of buying interest continues to come from disappointing exports, as well as from technical pressure. For the week ending Jan. 16, March Minneapolis gained 3.5 cents, March Chicago gained 3.75 cents, and March Kansas City gained 3.5 cents.

Wheat: another week of new lows Wheat traded to another round of new lows last week. For the short week ending Dec. 26, March Minneapolis dropped 12.25 cents, March wheat dropped 7.5 cents and March Kansas City gave back 13 cents. Most of the selling was tied to good crop ratings for U.S. winter wheat, as well as from larger-than-expected supplies of wheat in the world.
