North Dakota State University hosted a Great Plains Land-Grant Summit June 12 and 13 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of federal legislation that made possible state college and universities such as NDSU, the University of Minnesota, South Dakota State University and Montana State University. More than a century later, those universities remain vital for teaching, research and extension of agricultural and other information to the masses.

Regulating farms out of business
The Obama administration is no friend of farmers, and the recent stunt involving the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency sending spy planes over Nebraska to keep an eye on where cows drop their patties is the latest example of overreach by an administration that is bent on controlling every aspect of our lives, but farming in particular.

Dairy bill would restructure pricing system
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., announced on April 2 that she and Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, will introduce a bill to change the way dairy prices are set. She also said she still wants small dairy farmers exempt from the supply management provisions in the dairy bill that House Agriculture Committee ranking member Collin Peterson, D-Minn., has written.
