  • Once the boy was removed, firefighters went to work with chainsaws to lop up the fallen oak limbs and remove the sobering reminder of the accident.
  • The incident was frightening to relatives and other park visitors. The injured boy was attending an Erlandson-Olson family reunion.
  • The young patient remained calm through the ordeal, talking with EMTs as they prepared to carry him away.
  • The thickest portion of the fallen limb was more than 24 inches in diameter. The canopy of fallen foliage and branches covered an area about 30 feet across.
