GALLERY: Myra Collette, niece of Lawrence Welk

Myra Collette, the niece of American entertainment icon Lawrence Welk, fondly recounts many memories spent with Welk in their hometown of Strasberg, N.D. Collette recalled being just a little girl when she first met Welk, speaking of what a positive impact he was and how pleasant his visits were. The State Historical Society is debating the purchase of Welk's childhood home in Strasberg, not only as a dedication to Welk's legacy, but to serve as a historical preservation of the agricultural area surrounding and the culture of Germans from Russia in that region. photo by Jenna Watson/Grand Forks Herald
