Paul Carpenter

Paul Carpenter of Cloquet rings the bell at the Salvation Army Red Kettle in 19-degree weather Tuesday afternoon in front of Wal-Mart. Carpernter has been a volunteer bell ringer for several years and puts in four to five shifts each week from the day after Thanksgiving up until Christmas Eve. He encourages others to volunteer at the site, which is the only one located outdoors and attracts the fewest number of volunteers. Wendy Johnson/ wjohnson@pinejournal.com
