Tornado drill at Wadena-Deer Creek Middle/High School

An estimated 650 students, faculty members and administrators took part in a statewide tornado drill April 17 by filing into the safe room at the Wadena-Deer Creek Middle/High School. The room is designed to hold approximately 1,200 occupants and withstand an EF5 tornado. Attached on the northwest side of the middle/high school, the tornado-proof safe room will provide a place of shelter and protection in the event of severe weather, according to Bruce Boyne, who has worked as the Minnesota school’s liaison with the Federal Emergency Management Agency on the safe-room project.
