Arthur Gustave Sorlie was the 14th governor of North Dakota. Rumors and accusations of his affiliation with the Ku Klux Klan were so prevalent during his gubernatorial campaign that Sorlie felt obliged to get a signed letter from a Klan leader attesting that he wasn’t in the organization.
