Babies sitting up

Rebecca Woods, an assistant professor at North Dakota State University, suggests sitting up may be a critical part of how babies learn. Here, she holds Dean Lutz while Eamonn Nelson, center, and Samuel Clairmont, all 5 months old, sit in Bumbo seats, which were shown to be more effective than being held by a parent in learning to recognize objects.
