Record elm in 2004

This photo from the state Department of Agriculture’s Register of Big Trees shows the giant American elm in 2004 as it towered over the Bertsch home at 201 N. High St. in Menno. The state-record elm was cut down recently after it died following last summer’s drought. (Photo courtesy of the SDDA Register of Big Trees)
