Devils Lake

Large trunks and branches from shelterbelt trees that were drowned, broken by ice action, and then floated onto Dan Webster’s land near Penn, N.D., on the west side of Devils Lake, were exposed when the lake receded by three feet in 2012. Webster’s family and workers picked up the refuse in 2012, hoping to reclaim 1,000 acres in 2013, but now expect it to be inundated again. Photo taken April 16. .
