Juvenile female snowy owl


A juvenile female snowy owl banded by Duluth’s David Evans scans its surroundings from an earthen mound covered with snow near Rice’s Point on the St. Louis River on Thursday afternoon. A number of snowy owls have been seen in the Duluth-Superior area this winter, and hundreds more have been observed in the eastern United States. (Clint Austin / caustin@duluthnews.com)
