Does dog know I’ll return?

Dear Dr. Fox: I was wondering if you believe dogs have a sense of time. When we leave the house for 10 minutes, we get the same reaction as when we come home after leaving him at a kennel for three days. Also, I was told that every time we leave, the dog thinks that we will not return. Is this correct?
