Atlas, buy direct. shouldn't take too much digging to find a small farmer that runs a few head of beef more or less as a hobby or for his own freezer. those guys will usually advertise quarters or halves for sale in local papers, craigslist, tell the small-town locker operator, etc. we get a year out of a half-of-a-half, about $350-380 bucks depending on the size of the critter, and we are only buying grass-fed.

For small producers, the milk may be at the right quality but their equipment is not up to standard. The cost of upgrading is too expensive.Raising and producing milk is one aspect of farming that is around the clock all year round. Are we right about forcing dedicated farmers out of the business?I am aware that is how business works but is seems like we bailout big companies and not small producers. My daughter lives in California and milk is cheaper there.Large corporations can produce it cheaper but is that approach even a reality in this area?
