The Jamestown Rural Fire Department extinguished a grain dryer fire Friday night, said Rick Woehl, Jamestown Rural Fire Department assistant chief.
The fire located at 8311 39th St. S.E. resulted in minimal damage. The dryer and 1,600 bushels of sunflower seeds were saved, Woehl said.
Seven firefighters and three trucks were on the scene at 9:35 p.m. and stayed for about an hour, he said.
Woehl believes the blaze started when the seeds, which contain oil, were kept in the dryer for too long.
“Those darn dryers. You gotta keep a pretty close eye on them,” Woehl said.
