North Dakota may soon be able to confirm its own cases of swine flu. Probable state cases now must be confirmed by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota may soon be able to confirm its own cases of swine flu.

Probable state cases now must be confirmed by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. North Dakota’s state epidemiologist, Kirby Kruger, said the state is getting equipment to do the confirmations in its own lab. He hopes it will be ready by mid-June.

North Dakota so far has reported four swine flu cases confirmed by the CDC, and four cases listed as probable. None of the cases has required hospitalization.

The latest suspected case to be reported is in Minot. Health officials there said a student at Minot High School’s Magic City Campus has a probable case of swine flu and is recovering at home.
