Companies threaten fight over wind farm

Officials in two companies are threatening each other with legal action over the right to generate electricity from wind turbines that would be built on the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe’s reservation in central South Dakota.

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Officials in two companies are threatening each other with legal action over the right to generate electricity from wind turbines that would be built on the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe’s reservation in central South Dakota.

Dalton Creations of Houston announced earlier this week it was joining the tribe to create a new company that would develop a wind farm on the reservation.

But Winterhawk Energy and Development of Colorado now says it has been planning a wind project with the tribe for several years, and that deal prevents the tribe from negotiating with others.
