Hail storm causes widespread damage in Todd County

Wide portions of Todd County sustained hail and wind damage from a severe storm that passed through the area Saturday.

Wide portions of Todd County sustained hail and wind damage from a severe storm that passed through the area Saturday.

Starting at about 12:45 p.m., weather spotters from Hewitt, Browerville, Long Prairie and Grey Eagle fire departments were sent out.

The storm rumbled through the area of Little Sauk, Reynolds and Grey Eagle townships, which are southwest and southeast of Long Prairie.

Residents reported tornado funnel clouds forming but no touch down was verified, according to the Todd County Sheriff's Office.

There were several reports of wind damage to residences and hail ranging from pea to baseball sized.

Deputies reported major hail damage to crops and there were numerous reports of trees down and power outages.
