Enrollment deadline approaching for ACRE

Linda Hennen, executive director of USDA’s Minnesota Farm Service Agency (FSA), reminds producers that June 1, 2010, is the deadline for the 2010 Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) program or the traditional Direct and Counter-cyclical Program (DCP).

This is a mandatory deadline for all participants.

“It is critical for producers to begin the enrollment process as soon as possible,” Hennen said.

More than 94,000 farms were enrolled in DCP/ACRE programs during 2009.

“No extension will be provided for the June 1 enrollment deadline,” Hennen said. “In 2009, the signup deadline was extended to July 15, but there will be no extension past the June 1 deadline this year, 2010.”

Also, it is important to note that producers who enrolled in ACRE in 2009 must also visit their FSA office and sign documents for the 2010 ACRE program. That deadline is also June 1, 2010.

Producers should contact their local office to set up appointments well before the June 1, 2010 deadline.

Advance DCP/ACRE direct payments are available for those farms enrolled timely.
