Wheat growers to vote on check-off increase in January

Member farmers of the Minnesota Wheat Research and Promotion Council will vote in January on a proposed increase to their check-off promotion.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Member farmers of the Minnesota Wheat Research and Promotion Council will vote in January on a proposed increase to their check-off promotion. The current proposal is to change the check-off amount from one to two cents per bushel. The one-cent per bushel check-off rate has been in place since the wheat check-off was established 30 years ago.

Wheat producers will vote on the referendum at locations throughout Minnesota January 15-25, 2010.

Voting will also be held Tuesday, January 19 - Friday, January 22, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Minnesota Department of Agriculture offices in St. Paul.
