The first-ever Harvest Festival will be held at the historic Spruce Hill Church on Sunday, October 4 from 1 to 4 p.m.

An afternoon of family fun is planned with hayrides through the historic Spruce Hill County Park (site of the old Spruce Hill village), bobbing for apples, children’s games and cookie decorating. Bring the entire family.

A cemetery talk and walk will begin at 2 p.m., led by Marjorie Engstrand Van Gorp as she shares excerpts of her poetic writings of ancestors buried in the Spruce Hill Cemetery, “Voices on the Hillside.”

The church is located in the northeast corner of Douglas County. Take Highway 29 North from Alexandria to County Road 5 and turn east at the corner of Jim and Judy’s. Drive 5 and three-quarter miles on County Road 5 until you reach Spruce Hill Park Road and turn left (this is a gravel road). You will see the little white country church tucked behind the trees.
