The sign up for the 2009 Direct Countercyclical Program (DCP) and Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) Program will end Friday, August 14.

The 2009 Acreage Reporting will also conclude on Friday, August 14.

Producers were given the opportunity to sign up for DCP starting in December 2008 for the 2009 crop year. DCP is the annual program that has been in effect since 2002. DCP offers guaranteed payment amounts along with a countercyclical payment when commodity prices fall below established price levels. DCP benefits are calculated using historical base acreages on a farm unit.

The ACRE Program was made available for the first time in 2009. ACRE is an additional risk management tool that is designed to manage revenue and yield risk. ACRE payments are based on current planted acres not to exceed established bases of a farm.

Acreage reporting for 2009 is required when a farm unit is enrolled in a program receiving program benefits. Maintaining a cropping history on a farm unit is always a good idea as most programs use cropping history to establish eligibility for benefits.

Producers are encouraged to contact the Douglas County FSA office for more information on any of these important programs before the deadline of Friday, August 14, 2009. The office telephone number is (320) 763-3191, extension 2.
