Century Farms honored in Goodhue, Wabasha counties

The Minnesota State Fair and the Minnesota Farm Bureau have recognized 114 Minnesota farms — including four from Goodhue Conty — as 2009 Century Farms. Qualifying farms have been in continuous family ownership for at least 100 years and are 50 acres or more.

Qualifying farms have been in continuous family ownership for at least 100 years and are 50 acres or more.

Century Farm families receive a commemorative sign, as well as a certificate signed by the State Fair and Minnesota Farm Bureau presidents and Gov. Pawlenty. Since the program began in 1976, over 8,700 Minnesota farms have been recognized as Century Farms.

Goodhue County farm families being recognized are:

• Dean and Connie Larsen family; Dennison farm originally purchased in 1866

• Augustine Family Farm; Goodhue farm originally purchased in 1908

• Lone Oak Farms (Steven Matthees); Goodhue farm originally purchased in 1887

• Lone Oak Farms (Arnold Vomhof); Goodhue farm originally purchased in 1887

Wabasha County families being honored are:

• Bartholome Farms; Goodhue farm originally purchased in 1861

• The Scot and Jean Meyer family; Lake City farm originally purchased in 1908.
