Letter: Wind turbines are like torture

I live in the Forward wind project by Invenergy in Fond du Lac County, Wis.

To the Editor:

I live in the Forward wind project by Invenergy in Fond du Lac County, Wis. I feel the need to respond to Mr. Luebke’s letter of April 29. He stated that in Wisconsin “where most every local governing body has authority over turbines but with little if any expertise.”

In the case of the Town of Union, 318 pages of scientific information were presented to arrive at safe setbacks. In the case of the Public Service Commission using the state’s model ordinance of 1,000 feet from a residence, 440 feet from a property line and 50 decibel sound, scientific information was used.

He also states a new Minnesota statute of a 500-feet setback (absolutely crazy) and a 50 db standard or the sound of a refrigerator.

First, 50 dba is way too high a level. The sound of a refrigerator is an outrageous lie. The sound of a jet runway is more the truth.

Life in a wind project is a constant loud whooshing, jet sound, Chinook helicopter or motor sound. In the house it sounds like that of your heart in a stethoscope.

In Guantanamo Bay, sleep deprivation is considered torture.

Why isn’t this torture? The 5 turbines I hear are from 1,560 feet to three-quarters of a mile away.

Be prepared for health affects of loss of or interrupted sleep, headaches, dizziness, nausea, loss of balance, anxiety, anger, lack of motivation, children sleeping at school because they can’t sleep at home, ringing and buzzing in the ears, chest pains, loss of memory, not dreaming due to improper sleep and more. Shadow flicker is a major issue not, minimal as stated by wind companies.

Property values plummet and homes due not sell.

Do your research now to understand how large industrial wind turbines will affect your quality of life at www.better

The Wisconsin PSC and town boards allowed these industrial wind turbines to be shoved down our throats.

Please don’t allow your government agencies to create this same to you. You will forever regret it.
