Letter: Combine creativity and recycling

To the Editor:
April 22 is Earth Day. Along with a birthday party for Rubin the Blue Bin at 11:30 a.m., it is fitting that the Red Wing Arts Association is sponsoring a contest at the Depot for artwork made out of “recycled materials.”
Actually, it would be more accurate to say “reusable materials” because many things that don’t get recycled aren’t used up.
The point here is that junk doesn’t have to be junky. It can be reused creatively.
Contestants can register their original artwork at the Depot from 9 to 11 a.m. April 22, and it will be displayed all day. Judges will award three prizes at 1 p.m. based on originality, creativity, and artistic merit.
They will also consider the fact that Earth Day is supposed to be fun.
It is said that a thing of beauty is a joy forever, so let’s see some Red Wing joyfulness.
Please think outside of the recycling bin and make the Earth Day Art Contest a fun thing of beauty.
