ZUMBROTA — A public reception is planned from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 21 for two artists featured Feb. 16 through March 27 at Crossings at Carnegie - Denise Bunkert, who paints pastel landscapes, and HeeJune Shin, who paints watercolors.
The show is “Inner Spectacles: Illuminating the Journey.”
Bunkert’s work is exhibited in local galleries and art centers. She recently published a limited edition book of paintings and poems, “Essence: Nature in Vision & Verse,” and recently collaborated on “Mirrors of the Soul: Reflections on Life’s Seasons” with English poet Richard Whitfield.
In addition to exhibiting, Bunkert will teach two workshops, “Introduction to Chalk Pastels” on March 14, and “Expression through Color in Chalk Pastels” on March 21.
The mysteries of light have always fascinated Shin.
“Light brings out colors, shapes and ever-changing atmosphere. It casts shadows and reflections, which are often time more interesting than the actual objects. They are mysteries that can be explored and enjoyed by observation and interpretation,” Shin said. Because of this, “I am drawn to paint light, shadow, and reflective surfaces such as water, glass, and mirrors.”
A representational painter, she seeks to capture the world’s beauty realistically.
As a member of the Minnesota Watercolor Society, Shin exhibits regularly at juried shows and has received many awards. Her paintings were accepted at the Fine Arts Exhibition at the Minnesota State Fair in 2002 and 2008.
The exhibit may be viewed free during gallery hours Monday through Saturday. Call (507) 732-7616.
