The Lake Superior Master Gardener Association (LSMGA) and the Douglas County Hunger Coalition join forces 9-11 a.m. Saturday to offer a gardening workshops focusing on container gardening and growing climbing plants.

The session is held at the Solid Rock Gardens, located at 1004 N. 6th St. The workshop is free and open to the public.

“Often times growers do not have the space to have a large cultivated garden, or the growing season does not allow us the conditions to for the plant to reach maturity for harvest,” stated Jane Anklam, UW-Extension horticultural and agricultural educator for Douglas County. “With container gardening, the gardener has more flexibility and control.” Container gardening can enhance weed and pest control, soil and fertility; watering ease; extend growing season and can be more practical for those with disabilities and allows gardening where there is little room.
