PLANKINTON — A cow and bull informational program will be on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the 4-H Building, Plankinton; and at 6 p.m. at the 4-H building in Forestburg.
The focus of the meetings is to help producers optimize their cow and bull operations.
Topics and presenters include: Cody Wright, Extension beef specialist, who will speak on body condition score and how it affects cow nutrition for late gestation and early lactation and mineral nutrition for cows; Kevin Vaith, Beadle County Extension livestock educator, who will discuss bull selection considerations, including heifer replacement options, end-product solutions and labor and facilities options; and Heather Larson, Jerauld County Extension livestock educator, who will cover genetic abnormalities in beef cattle, including up-to-date information on defects in the cattle industry and how it affects your operation.
Producers are encouraged to bring questions and, if they want, recently harvested corn tested for mold (minimum of 5 pounds of corn).
The free meeting will be hosted by South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service and soup will be served at each meeting.
