Trains, planes and automobiles will soon adorn the exterior of the Corn Palace.

The Corn Palace this week announced that the 2010 decorating theme will be “Through the Ages,” with panels displaying pictures of an airplane, Segway, sailboat, bike, motorcycle, hot air balloon, snowmobile, stagecoach, four-wheeler, car, train and a canoe.

The canoe will feature a Boy Scout logo to commemorate the group’s 100th anniversary in 2010, when the murals will appear on the Corn Palace.

All of the murals were designed by Cherie Ramsdell, assistant professor of art at Dakota Wesleyan University.

“As people travel across this country to see these murals on Mitchell’s Corn Palace, the Festival Committee felt this theme depicting various modes of transportation would be interesting to all ages as we think about how travel has changed through the ages,” said Mark Schilling, Corn Palace director.
