WORTHINGTON — Plaques, certificates, pins and scholarships were handed out Monday night at the annual Worthington FFA Banquet in the high school cafeteria.
Among the top honors presented were the Star Awards. The Star in Ag Placement went to Kelsey Ray, while the Star Entrepreneur was awarded to Dayton Williamson. Star Greenhand awards were presented to Lauren LeBrun and Jackie Martin.
Randy Jacobs and Rita VanderKooi were presented with the honorary FFA degree for their work with the FFA program.
Worthington FFA members earning Proficiency Awards included: Evan Almberg, Ag Service Placement for his work in the Hy-Vee dairy department; Maggie Fornoff, Ag Sales & Service Placement, for her work at Jaycox Implement; David Folkers, Ag Placement Production, for his work at Penning Bros.; Dayton Williamson, Turf Management, for operating his own lawn business; James Schultz, Poultry Production Placement, for his work at Schultz Farms; Kelsey Ray, Outdoor Recreation, for her work as a YMCA lifeguard; and Allison Jaycox, Ag Sales & Service Placement, for her work at Jaycox Implement.
Those recognized for earning their Minnesota FFA Degree in 2010 were Evan Almberg, Allison Jaycox, Maggie Fornoff, Dayton Williamson and Kelsey Ray.
Chapter Leadership pins were awarded to Kirsten Aljets, freshman; Kari Suby, sophomore; Stuart Rogers, junior; and Allison Jaycox, senior; while Scholarship pins were presented to Deron Soderholm, freshman; Chelsey Harberts, sophomore; Sabrina Klein, junior; and Maggie Fornoff, senior.
Each year, the Worthington FFA Chapter conducts a trap shooting contest for members. This year’s winner was Jordan Honken. He received a trophy during the banquet.
FFA members who competed in the speaking contests this year were also recognized. Allison Jaycox received a pin for extemporaneous speaking; and Jackie Martin received a pin for prepared public speaking.
Certificates were presented to the Novice Parliamentary Procedure team of Kari Suby, Whitney Prins, Lauren LeBrun, Chelsey Harberts, Jackie Martin and Rachel Terhark.
Special scholarships for FFA members were also presented Monday night. Allison Jaycox was the recipient of the Jerry Russell scholarship; Austin Froderman received the Ray Cuperus scholarship; and Kelsey Ray was presented the Martha Olson scholarship.
Additional recognition during the evening included Evan Almberg and Dayton Williamson, who served on the Ag Advisory Board; Jenn Scholtes, who received a plaque for four consecutive years as a top fruit salesperson for the chapter; James Schultz, who earned the FFA Food Stand Award; Allison Jaycox, awarded a plaque for her year of service as Region VI sentinel; and Maggie Fornoff, presented a gavel set as the retiring FFA Chapter president.
