The various development stages are well ahead of last year. And about seven-percent of the corn is mature – much more than the normal one-percent at this time. About seven-percent of the corn-for-feed has been chopped. And 82-percent of the crop is good-to-excellent condition.
Officials say Wisconsin soybeans are also humming along as normal. 84-percent of the crop is in good-to-excellent condition, but there are some reports of white-mold and sudden death syndrome. Crop reporters report some stress due to the wet summer. They also say the weather is the best this year for making hay, and 80-percent of the third crop is in, along with 19-percent of the fourth crop.
Eau Claire is the only reporting station to have below-normal precipitation for the year. Eighty-two percent of Wisconsin farm fields have adequate soil moisture, and 10-percent have a surplus.
