HANKINSON, N.D. – The idled ethanol plant here has a new owner who expects to return the plant to operation as soon as possible.
Murphy Oil, based in El Dorado, Ark., has purchased the plant, company spokesman Dory Stiles said Thursday afternoon.
The Hankinson plant, built in 2006 and capable of annually producing 110 millions of ethanol, has been idle as a new owner was sought.
Former owner VeraSun, a Sioux Falls, S.D.-based ethanol company, ran into financial problems and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last fall.
“This is great news,” Hankinson Mayor Joseph O’Meara said when informed of the sale by The Forum.
