Arbor Day event set for April 22

New Richmond area fourth-graders will celebrate Arbor Day on April 22 when they travel to Hatfield Park to plant 10-foot trees.

New Richmond area fourth-graders will celebrate Arbor Day on April 22 when they travel to Hatfield Park to plant 10-foot trees.

The tree planting is one part of the city’s Arbor Day Celebration, which will take place from 10 a.m. until noon.

Learning stations will be manned by area volunteers and tree experts. Those stations will provide information about planting tree seedlings, tree identification walk, tree anatomy, proper tree planting, tree pruning and climbing.

The public is encouraged to attend. The schedule is as follows:

• 10 a.m.: Mayor’s proclamation and tree planting.

• 10:15 a.m.: Tree learning stations.

• 11:45 a.m.: Fourth-graders plant trees.

Arbor Day is sponsored by the New Richmond Parks Department and New Richmond Urban Forestry Committee with volunteers from St. Croix Valley Tree Service, St. Croix Tree Service, New Richmond Tree Service, St. Croix County Extension and the Willow River Garden Club.
