BISMARCK — American Crystal Sugar Co. has increased its projected payment for the 2008 crop.
The Red River Valley Sugar Beet Cooperative has told shareholders the payment will be $49 per ton. That's up $2 per ton from the projection in March, and up from the initial $44.40 projected during the company's annual meeting last December.
If realized, it will be the third year in a row for $45 or better projections. Actual payments may differ, depending on processing costs and selling prices.
Crystal growers planted 422,000 acres of sugar beets in 2008 and had a final yield of 25.2 tons per acre, the second highest in the company's history, for a total crop of 10.6 million tons.
