UND's AgCam not working properly in space

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A sophisticated camera built at the University of North Dakota and blasted into space aboard the space shuttle Endeavor last fall isn't working right.

The AgCam at the International Space Station was to send back high-resolution pictures and information about the Earth that could be used by farmers and scientists.

University and NASA officials think they might have to replace the camera with a new unit because of technical problems.

UND project manager Doug Olsen says his team, which includes students, will continue troubleshooting for a few months until a final decision is made.

Development and testing of the AgCam took about seven years. Olsen says it worked "perfectly" before launch.
