LAKE ANDES, S.D. — A case against a Lake Andes man who was accused of shooting another person’s horses has been dismissed.
Raymond Johanneson, 60, was arrested in September on five misdemeanor charges for allegedly shooting five horses that belonged to Lori Abdo-Smith and Charlie Smith. The Smiths are Johanneson’s neighbors.
The matter was scheduled for trial in early March, but according to court documents, the information did not include a list of witnesses, which is required by state law.
Judge Gordon Swanson said in his order granting a motion of dismissal that the lack of witnesses required the court to dismiss the information.
Swanson also ordered the bond $1,000 bond Johanneson paid after he was arrested be exonerated and anything he paid on that bond be returned.
