A two-vehicle car crash reported at 7:16 p.m. Saturday in Mahnomen County resulted in the death of two rural Waubun men.
Lloyd Benson, 71, and John Fagre, 49, died as a result of the accident, according to a press release from the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office.
Benson was driving south on County Road 3 about five miles east of Waubun when his vehicle collided with a northbound vehicle driven by Lee Hagen, 54, of Coon Rapids, Minn., according to the press release.
Hagen was airlifted to Inno-vis Hospital in Fargo, N.D., and is listed in critical, but stable condition.
Fagre, who was a passenger in Hagen’s vehicle, was pro-nounced dead at the scene.
Benson was taken to Mah-nomen Health Center and pronounced dead.
Benson’s wife, Betty, 71, was a passenger in his vehicle. She was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes, Minn., and is listed in stable condition.
The accident remains under investigation.
Responding agencies include the Mahnomen County Sher-iff’s Office, White Earth Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Waubun Fire Depart-ment, Mahnomen Fire De-partment, Mahnomen Health Center Ambulance, White Earth Ambulance, North Memorial Air, and MeritCare Lifeflight.
