WEST FARGO, N.D. — A worker severely injured his right arm and hand Monday afternoon while using an auger to test soil at a construction site, according to West Fargo, N.D., police.

About 4 p.m., Nicholas Prochnow was working in the 3300 block of Fifth Street West, an area where several new apartment buildings are being constructed, police said in a statement.

Prochnow, 34, of West Fargo was testing soil for Northern Technologies Co. of Fargo. Investigators believe his clothing may have caught on the auger and pulled him into the machine, police said.

His co-workers freed him before medics arrived and took him by ambulance to Essentia Hospital, police said.

Tuesday morning, the hospital declined to give an update on his condition.

Northern Technologies Co. told WDAY-TV that the company had no comment.
