Community gatherings scheduled for SD ranch families

Six community gatherings have been announced in South Dakota cities for ranchers and their families suffering the effects of the early October blizzard that killed tens of thousands of cattle.

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Six community gatherings have been announced in South Dakota cities for ranchers and their families suffering the effects of the early October blizzard that killed tens of thousands of cattle. Each event will offer a free meal and information about resources available as ranch families look to rebuild their ranch operations in the wake of the blizzard.

Resources and information will be available from the South Dakota Animal Industry Board, the South Dakota Department of Agriculture, South Dakota State University Extension, other federal and state agencies, bank and loan officers, insurance agents, agricultural industry organizations, and mental health professionals.

Gatherings will be held at the following dates and times:

•Union Center: Oct. 25, 6 to 9 pm; Union Center Community Center

•Faith: Oct. 26, 6 to 9 p.m., Faith Legion Hall

•New Underwood: Oct. 28, 6 to 9 p.m., New Underwood Community Center

•Belle Fourche: Oct. 29, 6 to 9 p.m., Belle Fourche Community Hall

•Custer and Fall River County: Oct. 30, 6 to 9 p.m., American Legion Club, Hot Springs

•Philip Community Gathering: Nov. 2, 5 to 8 p.m., Bad River Senior Citizen Center, Philip

These gatherings are a joint effort by South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association, South Dakota Farm Bureau, South Dakota Farmers Union and South Dakota Stockgrowers Association with the support of other industry groups and local businesses.
