Shutdown ends, paving way for farm bill negotiations

The government shutdown has ended and federal officials are going back to work. That means farm bill committees from the House and Senate can begin negotiations to come up with one comprehensive bill between the ones passed by each.

The government shutdown has ended and federal officials are going back to work. That means farm bill committees from the House and Senate can begin negotiations to come up with one comprehensive bill.

Those talks are likely to begin the week of Oct. 28 and might become part of a larger, long-term budget deal, according to Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich.
