SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — South Dakota’s corn silage harvest is well underway and row crops are moving toward maturity.
The National Agricultural Statistics Service says in its weekly crop report that baling hay and moving bales were the other major ag activities for the week that ended Sunday.
Winter wheat seeding was ahead of last year but below normal.
Corn at the mature stage was 18 percent, behind the 27 percent average and well behind the 67 percent last year.
Soybeans dropping leaves were 47 percent, well behind 91 percent last year and the 60 percent average.
The third cutting of alfalfa was 88 percent complete, ahead of last year and average.
